Mission

The mission of the Center for Sustainable Materials (CSM) is to increase the availability and use of renewable materials in broad segments of society to reduce dependence on petroleum and to generate a sustainable steady state materials balance world-wide.  The Center will engage in research, development, and commercialization of such materials, principally polymer and polymer composites, to increase the palette of materials available to designers in industry and commerce.  The CSM will utilize the broad, cutting-edge scientific and engineering capabilities at Rutgers University, and elsewhere, to understand sustainable materials from the molecular scale through fabricated components and structures  to provide novel and effective approaches to the development of new materials.  As a group, we will work with government, industrial, and commercial stakeholders to promote sustainable materials in all areas of application.
